According to NAN, Muhammed died on Sunday in a London hospital following a protracted illness.
Lawal Musa, a family source, said the remains of the deceased would be flown to Nigeria for burial.
Muhammed served as the minister of housing, urban development and environment from 1976 to 1977. After the coup that brought Murtala Mohammed, late former head of state, to power.
Before serving as a minister, he was appointed to the supreme military council on 30 July 1975.
He was appointed the governor of Kaduna in 1977 after which he was promoted to group captain.
In 2016, Muhammed was named the chairman of the governing council of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
He was also the chairman of Freedom Radio. Kano and was deputy chairman of the board of trustees of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).
He is survived by a wife and six children.
