You cite Biggie, Tupac, Big L, and Jay-Z as your influences. What will your legacy be like that will lead to you being an inspiration to others? I’m young so a “legacy” is something way ahead of me. I don’t think about it much but when I do I think of changing the world one verse at a time. I want to start a new movement with young black intelligent individuals that use music to express themselves and ideas and eventually expand on to bigger and better things.
Can you tell the people what has shaped you into the artist you are, today? My experiences and my dedication has shaped me into the artist that I am today. I’ve been here for only 15 years but I’ve been through things the average 15 year old couldn’t even imagine. I’m proud of myself that I am still here being the best me in the process. My dedication to my craft shapes me as well because there isn’t a day where I don’t write a line or at least think about rap. It’s my passion that will be there forever.
Since you are influenced by Jay-Z, do you see yourself becoming a businessman, like he is? I could see myself becoming a business man in the next 15 years or hopefully before then. After a while I know my skills aren’t going to be as sharp as they are now so I want to have a backup plan. I’m going to school for business so I want expand the rapper money into a bigger business or company to make more and be financially set for generations.
You have a new EP, in the works, when do you think it’ll be out? I’d rather not talk about release dates because the internet has a way to twist and contort your words into something that was never even thought of in the first place. I can’t give an exact date but it’s definitely on the way.
What is different about your style than the Golden Era that you love so much? I am a mixture of old school and new school so I love to rap on both boom bap and trap beats. As you can see, few artists are doing this as their main sound. So I think that’s what makes me stand out.
Since the year is new, can you predict how you see your 2018 going? I feel like 2018 is going to be an amazing year of endless opportunities for me. I don’t let anything that seems like a W pass me either so the haters and the fans can expect nothing but the best coming from Young Prophit.
